South of the Border: Mexico Bus Tours

These days, everyone is trying to save a little cash. Maybe you’re interested in going abroad for a vacation, but you don’t have the cash to spring for a European train tour or a beach stay in Bali. For U.S. and Canadian citizens, you can experience a different climate and way of life without crossing the ocean. Those curious enough to check out Mexico on one of these unique bus tours won’t be disappointed.

Buffalo Bus Tours

You can board the Buffalo Bus in Arizona and let them worry about the details as you cross the border to various beautiful Mexican destinations. The tour company has 18 years of experience and offers a number of different types of trips. You can experience the Copper Canyon, a geographical wonder four times the size of the Grand Canyon, stay in the beautiful beachside town of San Felipe, or party during the Mardi Gras celebrations in Ensenada. A week-long Buffalo Tour costs about $1,000 per person.

San Diego Tours

With San Diego tours you can leave from southern California via luxury coach, for a day-long excursion in the Spanish-influenced Mexican coastal town of Ensenada. Enjoy lunch and sightseeing deep in the heart of Mexico’s wine growing region, have a margarita, and dip your toes in the ocean before returning back to the states. The tours are $78 for adults and $44 for children.

Bamba Experience

Want to travel by bus around Mexico, but don’t want to be hampered by a rigid schedule? Bamba Experience has hop-on, hop-off bus passes on routes that hit all of Mexico’s major backpacker destinations. While they’re not especially cheap, you won’t have to worry about missing your bus back to your hostel after a day trip to see some fabulous ancient ruins. A flexible pass that lets you travel from Cancun through Tulum, Campeche, Oaxaca, Puebla, and a few other destinations to end in Mexico City costs 363 Euros.

ETN

Maybe you’re not interested in hanging out with any dreadlocked backpackers, and would rather have a luxury coach shuttle you right to your destination. ETN is a bus line with luxury coaches servicing popular routes like Acapulco, Guadalajara, Tampico, Mexico City, and many more. During your trip, you’ll be able to surf the Internet with onboard wifi or watch the latest blockbuster on plasma screen TVs.

Greyhound Mexico

Feeling adventurous? You can save some cash by planning your sightseeing yourself and riding the Greyhound line through Mexico. The company has routes from New Mexico, Texas, and California into Mexico.
